The company
The ideal climate for every building
SCHAKO, inventor of the swirl diffuser, produces components and systems for ventilation and air conditioning in five European locations. Development in the company’s own test laboratories guarantees the optimum functionality of every product. Our automated production facilities ensure the very highest standards of quality and flexibility.
Since 1928, this policy has made SCHAKO a benchmark for the entire ventilation and air conditioning industry. From fire prevention and sound insulation through draught-free air distribution through to stationary cooling, our innovations set the standard.
The reference for climate and air
Whether in the opera or for the clean room, in exhibition halls or gymnasiums, office buildings or production workshops – sustainable solutions for an optimum room climate are to be found everywhere. SCHAKO creates a unique link between engineering, comfort and aesthetic appeal.
It is therefore not surprising that our list of regular clients includes some of the world’s most reputed architects, alongside engineers and planning consultants.
Good air comes from competence.
What does good air actually sound like?
Air is not just for breathing. It is also there for hearing. Because it transmits sound. That sound may come from a trumpet, from the mouth of an orator or the baritone voice of a singer – its sound waves literally make the air vibrate. It relaxes, compresses and transmits the resultant pressure to the next layer of air. Our ears perceive this as a pressure wave. Transmitted to the brain, this signal is converted into sounds. In theatres, concert halls, opera houses or assembly rooms, i.e. in buildings where an optimum sound experience is required, nothing must interfere with this process. This is where the innovative ventilation technology components from SCHAKO come into play.
To support acoustic room concepts, SCHAKO has developed an exceptionally quiet step swirl diffuser. This employs a highly inductive air jet to deliver a low-noise, draught-free exchange of air. Based upon an ingenious acoustic concept devised by SCHAKO. The human ear perceives high and low frequencies less well. It hears well in the middle frequency range and can distinguish even the tiniest of variations in sound. Here, undesirable sounds need to be damped particularly well. For this range, SCHAKO has developed and optimised its step swirl diffuser. By delivering first-class values in the middle frequencies, it helps to fill the building with healthy, clean air which helps to improve the sound quality of the room.
What do good air and good design have in common?
What links the King of Riad, the Mona Lisa, the guests at the Ritz Carlton in Berlin, travellers at Madrid Airport and visitors to the Science Museum in Valencia? They are all surrounded by fresh, clean, perfectly temperature-controlled air, provided by the patented long throw nozzle from SCHAKO. Its aesthetic design blends harmoniously or even invisibly in every interior concept. That may be in the ceiling section of the 1001 Nights Palace in Riad or distributed across the walls of the Louvre in Paris – this design classic from SCHAKO delivers conviction wherever it goes with its perfect synthesis of functionality and aesthetics.
In particular, large rooms and halls require specialist air technology systems that assure a uniform supply of air. With a throw width of 30 metres, the SCHAKO long throw nozzle can even deliver draught-free air with homogeneous temperature layering across extensive interior spaces. In museums, hotels, airports and palaces, foyers or lofts, people are able to breathe good fresh air at all times. Through the diversity of materials and colours, the SCHAKO long throw nozzle equips architects and masters of works with additional boundless freedom in the implementation of their architectural ideas.
Where does clean air come from?
People love the air at the seaside or in the mountains. Here it is fresh, of high quality and is even therapeutically beneficial for bronchial conditions. However, even here, the air contains absolutely minute airborne particles. These particles, also known as aerosols, are of biological, chemical or radioactive origin. Depending on their concentration, they can become a burden to human health. In production facilities, the air needs to be cleaned of aerosols. Even in private households, it can be of benefit to allergy sufferers to keep particles of vegetable, animal or mineral matter away from the air inside rooms. Clean air becomes essential however, particularly in areas where even the slightest impurity can lead to hygienic disasters. Clean rooms are a case in point, providing safe premises for product development.
For the clean rooms in the chemicals, nano-technology, foodstuff, biotech, environmental technology and pharmaceuticals industry, SCHAKO has developed specialist, ultra-safe clean room filter diffusers. These help to keep the concentration of airborne particles as low as possible. With aerosol filter boxes, the outlet is hermetically sealed to prevent entrained particles from escaping into the room. Digestor exhaust flow controllers determine the volume of air to be drawn off and open or close the control flap within seconds to suit requirements. Whether in the private, industrial or clinical sphere, SCHAKO makes clean air.
How do you rescue air?
With the BKA-EN fire damper, SCHAKO deliberately dispensed with all-round stop profiles that reduce cross sections. This makes the operation of a ventilation system very quiet, and through the reduced loss in pressure, costs can be reduced effectively. The low-maintenance smoke detectors are installed directly, flush with either a ceiling or a wall. All SCHAKO components are tested in the company’s own fire protection laboratory at temperatures of up to 1000°C to ensure that they provide reliable protection in serious situations. You see, our components rescue the air that people need to breathe – and that can save lives.
When does air deliver power?
Most people spend about 20 hours a day in enclosed rooms. During that time, they breathe approximately 20 000 litres of air in and out. Every time they breathe out, the oxygen content is reduced by almost 4%, AND CO2 is produced. If there is a lot of people in a room – for example offices or production environments – the oxygen levels tend to drop and carbon dioxide levels rise by a multiple factor. The air in the room is soon used up. Fatigue, headaches, poor concentration and irritability then tend to affect employees.
SCHAKO can deliver a tangibly better room climate with its powerful components for HVAC systems. Through targeted air renewal with a continuous supply of fresh, oxygen-rich, pleasantly temperature-controlled air, a good basis is established for efficient work and a sense of well-being. Modern air-water systems such as fan coils, cooling ceilings or the Cultra climate module open up entirely new perspectives and create the optimum room climate. The space-saving Cultra climate module is the first choice for many companies when it comes to choosing a decentralised form of climate control. Pro7 and Bavaria Studios in Munich, the ZDF Deichtorcenter in Hamburg, the TV Synchron building in Berlin and Audi in Ingolstadt all use the acoustically optimised climate module from SCHAKO to deliver temperature-controlled comfort to the interiors of their buildings, as well as optimum acoustics.
Who are the good air experts?
Day in day out, we are dealing with nothing less than good air. That is because we wish everyone, in every public or commercial space to receive the best possible atmosphere for living and working. To this end, we develop our air technology components. This is why we are always conducting research into new as well as individual solutions needed to meet the technical challenges of our customers in relation to ventilation, air-conditioning, acoustic insulation, fire protection and smoke extraction. The demands these make on our products can vary extensively. Every sector, every area and every building structure presents different requirements in terms of air quality and room climate. And to enable us to offer the optimum solution to each of these, we work jointly across the SCHAKO Group with other experts involved in the HVAC technology of enclosed spaces.
